The cat’s out of the bag and she’s running for president. Can you really say you were surprised at this piece of news?

No matter who you are, election season is undeniably important. But sometimes, you simply need a break from your Facebook friends’ political rants and your grandfather’s inappropriate dinner table discussions.

Enter Hello Kitty! Boasting a whopping 10 million Facebook fans (that’s more than Republican candidate Mitt Romney!), this pretty kitty is ready to rumble. And she’ll do it with an oversized bow atop her head, of course.

“Hello Kitty has embodied positivity for almost 40 years and inspires millions of fans worldwide,” Jill Koch, Senior Vice President of Brand Management and Marketing, Sanrio, Inc., stated in a press release. “This campaign is a celebration of what she represents: friendship, fun and happiness.”

This October, Washington DC residents can look forward to Hello Kitty’s Friendship Party street teams and door-to-door canvassers, who will hand out Hello Kitty bumper stickers, buttons, and yard signs. You can expect this fashion forward feline to show off her spirit in red, white, and blue.

Lucky capital city slickers should also keep their cat eyes peeled for the opening of Hello Kitty’s Campaign Headquarters. It’ll be stationed at LivingSocial’s 918 F Street venue during the week of November 1. Expect kitty-riffic events, an art show, collectible products, and more. Best of all, Sanrio and Hello Kitty will team up with 826DC  to help local kids hone their creative writing skills.

Not in DC? Vote for Hello Kitty’s running mate on Facebook, go to Sanrio.com for campaign-themed gift with purchases, or head on over to a local Sanrio store during the week of October 19 for a free button. We don’t usually endorse presidential candidates, but we’re totally behind this kitty’s bid!
